Secure Email - Manually Setting Secure Delivery

Summary

This article discusses how to manually set secure delivery with an email.

Body

How to Steps

Email sent from a Creighton account to a non-Creighton email address are automatically scanned for potentially HIPAA-sensitive content and encrypted (with a link to a secure web portal) if sensitive content is found. However, the sender can manually specify whether a message is to be encrypted by including a special command on the Subject line of the email message.

  • To specify that a message is to remain unencrypted, start the Subject line with the term plaintext. Follow that with a space, and then the rest of the desired subject line.
  • To specify that a message is to be encrypted, start the Subject line with the term #secure. Follow that with a space, and then the rest of the desired subject line.
