How to Steps
The Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) has identified an increase in incidents involving the Respondus LockDown Browser freezing, primarily on iPads, but also on MacBooks. We'd like to provide you with some information to address and understand this issue:
Documentation from CFE:
The Fix:
- If the student is opening LockDown Browser and then opening the quiz and things freeze, then try opening the quiz first and allowing it to open LockDown Browser. A forced shutdown may be needed on an iPad if the device or app is completely frozen.
Explanation of the Problem:
- Instructors can create two types of quizzes, "Classic Quiz" and "New Quiz."
- Classic quizzes are usually accessed by initiating the LockDown Browser first and then accessing the quizzes.
o If LockDown Browser freezes while accessing the quiz, it's likely a "New Quiz."
- New style quizzes are accessed directly through the course and automatically open the LockDown Browser.
- Within the same course, instructors may have both new and classic quizzes, which can be confusing for students.
- CFE is actively collaborating with faculty to enhance consistency in this matter.
