OneNote Backup and Export Process

The guide provides steps for you to backup or import OneNote in the desired format using the Windows Operating System (OS). Your will be able to export OneNote as .one, .doc, .docx, .pdf, .xps, .mht. We Recommend you save OneNote as .mht format as it opens on the browser and is easier to convert to another format. The process works on Windows OS only, therefore users with Mac devices can stop by the myIT service desk to loan a Windows device to perform the process.

How to Steps

  1. Log in to Windows OS. If using myIT loaner, use NetID and password to log in.
  2. Log in to OneNote using the account where the notes are saved. Example: NetID@creighton.edu and Creighton password.
  3. Go through the authentication process if required.
  4. Open the notebook that is saved on the device or account by going to File > Open > Choose notebook to open.
  5. Once the notebook is loaded, you can export by going to File > Export > You have the option to choose Page, Section, or Notebook. > Select the desire option and desire format.
  6. Next click Export > Name and save the file in the desired location.
  7. Perform step 3 and 4 for all the notebook that needs to be backup.
