Mac OS Sequoia Limitations for Printing and Screen Recording

Apple has recently released the latest version of the Mac OS, Sequoia. After testing the new Mac OS, the Division of Information Technology (IT) has noted some concerns with its operability in our environment.  To reduce frustration, IT has now blocked Sequoia from downloading on Creighton managed Macintosh computers.

Since our desktop management system cannot suspend this update indefinitely, Sequoia will be releasing on November 15th. Unless Apple modifies the Sequoia OS, you will see the following behaviors each month after you upgrade to Sequoia on your Creighton Mac:

  1. Some of your apps, including Teams, Zoom, and Panopto, will prompt you to allow Screen Recording. This enables you to use the screen sharing and recording functions of any program that can record your screen. Each of these apps will need to be restarted to update permissions and use the apps to record.
  2. You will also be prompted to allow Local Network Communication for your computer to print. When you grant permission to print, you must then reboot your computer  even though you will not be prompted to do so. Without a reboot, you will be unable to print.

Creighton, along with many other institutions, has voiced our disappointment with these changes to Apple.  Currently, Apple has not announced any changes to the OS, but IT will continue to work to limit their impact on our faculty, staff, and students.
