'Blocked by Your Organization' Error in Google Chrome

Prerequisites / Minimum Requirements

  • Google Chrome installed on the device
  • Multiple Chrome profiles available, or the ability to create a new Chrome profile
  • User seeing a "Blocked by your organization" message in Chrome

End State / Outcome

The user can access the needed Google service or website by using a Chrome profile that does not have the CommonSpirit-managed Google Workspace Extension installed.

How to Steps

The Google Workspace Extension is required for some CommonSpirit/CHI workflows and may be automatically installed or configured on Chrome profiles used for organizational Google accounts.

When the extension is installed, Google may apply organization-managed policies to that Chrome profile. As a result, users may receive a "Blocked by your organization" error when trying to do certain things like printing, downloading files, or accessing resources outside the managed environment.

Resolution

Switch to a Different Chrome Profile

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. Select the Profile icon in the upper-right corner of the browser.
  3. Choose a different Chrome profile that is not associated with CommonSpirit/CHI.
    • If another profile is not available, select Add to create a new Chrome profile.
  4. Sign in with the correct Google account if prompted.
  5. Try the action again that previously showed the "Blocked by your organization" message.

Additional Information

The Google Workspace Extension is required for certain CommonSpirit/CHI business functions. Users should not remove or change the extension on organizational Chrome profiles unless directed by CommonSpirit/CHI IT.
