How to Install the Microsoft Multi-Factor Authentication App

This document provides an overview of installing the Microsoft Authenticator App. You can use the Microsoft Authenticator app to receive notifications on your smartphone or tablet to verify your identity when prompted for Multifactor Authentication (MFA).

How to Steps

Step 1: Download and Install the Microsoft Authenticator App on your mobile device

You will use the Microsoft Authenticator app every time you sign into your Creighton account, so please ensure you register the mobile device that you always carry.

You can install the Microsoft Authenticator app in one of the following ways:

  • Mobile App Store

  1. Open the Apple App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).

  2. Search for Microsoft Authenticator.

  3. Tap Install.

  • Direct Link

  1. Visit https://aka.ms/authapp from any browser. Scan the QR code to redirect to the corresponding app store for your personal device.


Step 2: Log-in to your Account

  1. On your desktop or laptop, visit: https://aka.ms/mysecurityinfo

  2. Sign in using your netID@creighton.edu and BLUE password.

  3. When prompted with “Let’s keep your account secure,” click Next.

  4. Continue following the prompts until a QR code appears on the screen.


Step 3: Set Up the App on Your Mobile Device

  1. Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device.

  2. Tap the plus (+) icon in the top right corner.

  3. Select Work or School Account.

  4. Tap Scan QR Code.

  5. Use your device’s camera to scan the QR code displayed on your desktop screen.

  6. After scanning, tap Next on your desktop.

  7. You will receive a test notification on your mobile device — approve it by entering the two digit code displayed on your computer to complete the setup.


Utilizing Microsoft Authenticator

  1. After entering your BLUE password, you will see a screen similar to this:
  2. You will receive a notification on your Authenticator app on your mobile device to approve the sign in.
  3. Open your Authenticator app on your mobile device and enter the two digits displayed on the device you're trying to log in to.
  4. Touch "Yes" after entering the digits. 

Congratulations!

You have successfully set up Microsoft Authenticator for your Creighton University account. You can now use push notifications for secure sign-ins and enhanced account protection.
