Transferring Chrome and Edge Bookmarks

Summary

This is a fast, alternative method to transferring the bookmarks from one system to another. Useful for when a user gets a refresh or will be utilizing a loaner system for an extended period of time.

How to Steps

  1. Navigate to the following folder on the user’s system:

                                C:\Users\specific user\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default – Chrome

                                C:\Users\specific user\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default – Edge

  1. In this folder, there will be a file called Bookmarks.
  2. Copy this file.
  3. On the new machine, open up either the Chrome or Edge browser (this will create the folder labeled Default in the respective locations).
  4. Transfer the Bookmarks file from the old system to the new system (OneDrive, Email, USB Drive, etc…).
  5. Place the Bookmarks file in the same location:

                                 C:\Users\specific user\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default – Chrome

                                 C:\Users\specific user\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default – Edge

  1. The user’s bookmarks will now have been copied to the new system.

Note: If the bookmarks do not populate in the browser, close the browser & reopen
