What can I do if Apple Mac OS 15 Sequoia Doesn't Provide the Popup to Enter NetID/Password for Printing?

Summary

Describes how Mac OS Sequoia now has more permission prompts specifically related to Pharos printing and network discovery. These prompts can interfere with the ability for the printer driver to display the entry necessary to allow printing. The article shows how to resolve.

Body

Apple recently released the latest version of the Mac OS 15, Sequoia. After testing the new Mac OS, the Division of Information Technology (IT) has noted some concerns with its operability in our environment.  To reduce frustration, IT has now blocked Sequoia from downloading on Creighton managed Macintosh computers. Since our desktop management system cannot suspend this update indefinitely, Sequoia will be releasing on November 15th. Unless Apple modifies the Sequoia OS, you will see the following behaviors each month after you upgrade to Sequoia on your Creighton Mac:

Common Signs or Symptoms:

  • When printing, an Apple OS Allow or Don't Allow window opens with Allow Popup to find devices on local networks?
  • If Allow is selected no option to enter your NetID and password for printing is displayed.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. When printing the first time after the Sequoia upgrade, you will be prompted to select Allow the Pharos popup box. If Don't Allow is selected you will need to change it to Allow in System Preferences mentioned below.

  1. Next you should be presented with Pharos Popup box. Periodically even if you click Allow, the pop up box that asks for your NetID and password to allow printing will not display.

Entering Pharos Popup Box Credentials

  1. If you don't see this Pharos Popup box, there are two options you can use to resolve the issue.
  • You can reboot the computer and try to print again.  This time the popup box will show up, and you will be allowed to print.
  • You also have the option to toggle off the Pharos Systems International.  To do this:
    • Go to System Preferences > General >  Login Items.
    • The toggle will be set to on, but to ensure the setting, toggle it off and then toggle it back on
    • Next try to print again.  If that fails you will need to reboot your computer.

Further Explanation of the Issue

  • Mac OS Sequoia introduces a new systems setting called Local Network. This is located in System Preferences > Privacy and Security.
  • The application listed will be named Popup.  If you select  Don't Allow the toggle will be off.  Slide it to the right to toggle it on, and attempt to print again.
  • If the Popup Box for user credentials does not appear, apply one of the two fixes previously listed above.
