How to Steps

This document explains how to install the required Google Workspace Extension on CU-owned devices in order to access (Gmail) Commonspirit mail and calendar. 

Steps: If installing Google Workspace for the FIRST TIME, please proceed to the section titled: “Setting up new (CommonSpirit) profile in Chrome

Otherwise, please follow these steps below if you have received the following error message.

1.    If previous attempts to setup Google Workspace failed, you will receive the following message.

 

2.    You will need to remove the existing CommonSpirit account by clicking on the profile (pic) in the upper right corner and click on the cog gear.

 

3.    Remove the user’s CommonSpirit account by hovering over the user account and clicking on the 3 vertical ellipses (be cautious you are only removing their CommonSpirit.org account) and clicking Remove this person.

 

Setting up new (CommonSpirit) profile in Chrome

1.    Open up Chrome browser.

2.    Click on the profile (pic) in the upper right corner [between 3 vertical ellipses and bookmark star] to view dropdown and click Add.

 

3.    Another Chrome window will appear.

 

a.    Enter user’s name.

b.    Choose an Avatar.

c.    Uncheck Create a desktop shortcut for this user.

d.    Click Add.

 

4.    A separate Chrome welcome screen will appear (for your new profile) requiring installation of the Google Endpoint Verification extension at this point.

 

5.    Navigate to a new tab (+) and enter the following URL: https://cloud.google.com/endpoint-verification/docs/self-installing

a.    Scroll down and click Endpoint Verification extension.

 

6.    Click Add to Chrome

 

7.    Click on Add Extension

 

8.    When prompted, click Turn on Sync.

9.    (Optional) You may click on another tab and then the 3 vertical ellipses -> “Settings” -> “Extensions” to verify that the “Endpoint Verification” extension has been installed successfully.

 

10.  Enter the user’s email address associated with CommonSpirit and click Next.

 

 

11.  Enter the email address associated with CommonSpirit again and click Next.

 

12.  Enter the password associated with the CommonSpirit email account and click Sign In.

 

 

13.  Check box “Remember me for 24 hours” and choose the DUO option preferred to authenticate.

 

14.  Click Continue on the Verify it’s you screen.

 

 

15.  Click on Link data.

 

16.  Click Yes, I’m in to Turn on sync?

 

17.  You should now be back on a Google screen where you may select Gmail to access email.

 

18.  To log out of email, click the CommonSpirit button on the top-right in order to select the Sign out option.

 

19.  You will then be presented with a Google Workspace CommonSpirit page that you will need to click on the logged-in user’s name and choose Sign Out once again.

 

20.  Note that when closing out of the Chrome browser and opening it back up, it will automatically default to CommonSpirit each time. You may navigate to another Gmail account by clicking on the current account (Paused) and select another account or Add a new account.
