Repairing OneNote Issues – Mac

Prerequisites / Minimum Requirements

mac OS user, using OneNote, notebooks are not syncing

End State / Outcome

Notebooks are now syncing

How to Steps

  1. Verify notebook sync location and correct account.
  2. Control-click on the notebook and select Copy Link to this Notebook,
  3. Paste this into a document so that you can examine it.
  4. Hold cursor over the hyperlink.  If it begins with creightonunivmy.sharepoint.com, this notebook is syncing to a Creighton account, otherwise it is syncing to another location.
  5. Verify that the customer is signed into the correct Microsoft account, located at the top of the list of available notebooks.
  6. If the customer is not signed in with the correct account, click on their username above the list of available notebooks then click the + sign to the right of Connected Services.  Follow the on-screen prompts to sign into the correct account.

If the notebook is still not syncing after verifying correct account, a new notebook must be created, and content transferred to that notebook.

  • Depending on where the syncing error is at, you may need to move either sections or pages individually to the new notebook. The easiest way to do that is to control-click on each item and select Move Section To: from the menu, then select the newly created notebook.
  • If the customer is low on disk space, they may need to make some space available before new notebooks can be created and data moved.

If the customer is having issues with their OneNote file cache using up too much storage space, they should create smaller notebooks and transfer their content into those, then close notebooks that are no longer needed. They will still be available in cloud storage however they will not use limited disk space anymore.
