Checking Basic Auth for Mail.App on iOS device

1.    Go to Settings on the iOS device

2.    Scroll down and select an option for Accounts (Available options based on iOS version)

a.    For most iOS version lower than iOS 14:

                                          i.    Select Passwords & Accounts to access Accounts

 

b.    For iOS  version 14 or later:

                                          i.    Select Mail to access Accounts

 

3.    Select Accounts

                                          i.    Locate and tap on the Exchange Account for Creighton Mail

 

4.    Tap on Account name@creighton.edu

 

5.    If you see a setup similar to the image below, it means the account was configured manually using Basic Auth. (Mail account needs to be re-configured)

 

6.    If you see a setup similar to the image below, it means the account was configured using Modern Auth. (Mail account does NOT need to be re-configured)

 

Tips:

1.    If the goal is to setup an Exchange account on the native Mail.app for an iOS device:

a.    Ensure the device is running iOS 11.0 or higher

b.    Delete broken Exchange Account for Creighton mail

c.     Select Add Account under Accounts:

                                          i.    Select Microsoft Exchange

                                        ii.    Enter netid@creighton.edu

                                        iii.    Enter a value for Description or leave it as the default “Exchange”

                                       iv.    Tap on Next and select “Sign In” and complete authentication via SSO (Do NOT select Configure Manually in the setup process)

2.    If the goal is to switch mail service to an Outlook App

a.    Ensure the device is running iOS 13.0 or higher

b.    Install and setup the Outlook App

c.     Check for active services linked with the Exchange Account apart from Mail (ie. Contacts, Calendars, Reminders and Notes) on the device.

                                          i.    If any exists, you will have to setup the Exchange account and select the applicable service(s)

 

                                         ii.    If users do NOT have a need for any of the services (ie. Contacts, Calendars, Reminders and Notes), delete the broken Exchange account
