How to request Admin rights on Mac OS via JAMF Connect

This article demonstrates how to request admin rights on a Mac in JAMF.

Prerequisites / Minimum Requirements

  • JAMF Connect has been installed  
  • The logged on account is a Faculty or Staff
  • Students will not be given admin rights even temporarily
  • Most Creighton Faculty & Staff should not have full admin rights
    • Follow this process for twenty minutes of temporary admin rights

End State / Outcome

  • The logged on user is able to promote themselves to admin

How to Steps

 

Full Admin Rights

  • If a person has full admin rights, JAMF Connect will show greyed out User Privileges with the Admin account listed
  • In this case, there should not be a need for further actions

How to request temporary admin rights

  • Click the Plus Icon
  • User Privileges will show Standard User and the netid
  • Click Request Admin Privileges

 

 

  • The plus icon will show a timer counting down from 20 minutes
  • A notification will also say “You are now a local administrator.”
  • The user privileges screen will reflect the admin account
  • System Preferences/Users & Groups will show admin next to the account name
  • After 20 minutes admin rights will revert back to standard
