Killing Windows Update Service
Windows Update hung on stopping.
Windows Update service will free up and stop hanging.
1. Open cmd in admin mode.
2. Find out the Windows Update Service PID #
· Type sc queryex wuauserv into the cmd field to find the PID #
3. Force shutdown the process with the PID #
· Type taskkill /PID ### /F with the PID # you found in previous step.
The Windows Update service should now have completed and terminated the process. You can now open the Local Services and verify that the process is no longer stuck.
