Mailman List Owner: Subscribing and Unsubscribing

Prerequisites / Minimum Requirements

  • List ownership of an active Mailman list

How to Steps

Subscribing others to my list

  1. Go to [Membership Management], then [Mass Subscription]. In the first large text box, enter the email addresses (one per line).
  2. Scroll down and click Submit.

NOTE: Unsatisfactory results may occur if you cut/paste from a Word doc or Access spreadsheet or other non-plain text format.

Closing my list so that I approve all subscriptions

  1. Go to [Privacy Options], then [Subscription Rules] and scroll down to What steps are required for subscription?
  2. Next choose either Require Approval or Confirm and Approve.
  3. The default is Confirm which sends an email to the requesting email address with a link to be followed to complete subscription.

Unsubscribe others from my list

  1. Go to [Membership Management]. Locate their address (listed alphabetically) and check the box in the first column. Do as many as you'd like (per page).
  2. Scroll down and click Submit.

Stopping subscribers from unsubscribing

This is possible, but it is not as useful as it might seem.

  1. Go to [Privacy Options], then [Subscription Rules] and scroll down to Is the list moderator's approval required for unsubscribe requests? and choose Yes.
  2. Next click Submit.

Note:  You may generate ill will among your subscribers, and they can circumvent this by going to their own options for the list and disabling mail delivery.
