How do I connect my Creighton Mac to the internet?

Prerequisites / Minimum Requirements

  • A Creighton-affiliated Mac computer
  • Your Creighton NetID and NetID password
  • Note: Your NetID password may be different from the local password you use to log in to your Mac.

End State / Outcome

Your Mac will be connected to the Creighton network via CUWireless (Wi-Fi) or wired Ethernet, with the 802.1X authentication prompt dismissed and network access working normally.

How to Steps

Background: As Creighton upgrades campus buildings to its new network infrastructure (SDA), Mac computers are required to authenticate using 802.1X before connecting. You will see a pop-up prompt asking for your credentials when connecting to CUWireless (Wi-Fi) or wired Ethernet in upgraded buildings. This is expected — it is not an error.

Left: Ethernet authentication prompt (globe icon)    |    Right: CUWireless prompt (Wi-Fi icon)

The prompt will appear with either a Wi-Fi icon (for CUWireless) or a globe icon (for wired Ethernet). Both prompts are completed the same way.

To authenticate and connect:

  1. Leave the certificate dropdown set to No certificate selected. Do not select a certificate.
  2. In the Account Name field, enter your Creighton NetID (e.g., abc12345— not your full email address).
  3. In the Password field, enter your NetID password (the same one used for Creighton email or my.creighton.edu).
  4. Check the Remember this information box so you are not prompted again.
  5. Click OK. Your Mac will connect to the network within a few seconds.

Troubleshooting:

  • Prompt keeps reappearing: Confirm Remember this information was checked, and that your NetID and password are correct.
  • Credentials not working: Use your NetID (not your full email) and your current NetID password. Your Mac login password may be different.
  • Wired connection is very slow (30 seconds): This happens when the authentication prompt is dismissed without logging in. Re-connect the Ethernet cable and complete the authentication steps above.
  • Never seen this prompt before in my building: Your building's network was recently upgraded. This prompt is normal. Authenticate once with Remember this information checked and it will not appear again.
